India is predominantly a rural developed country and at present 90% of the transactions in retail market take place with cash. Even after so many drives of jandhan accounts there are people who don't have bank accounts in rural and remote places where economy is fully in cash. In the first step they should make all 6 metro cashless ticketing for reservation and then gradually extend it to all 2-tier and 3- tier cities greater then 5 lacs population. Unreserved general class tickets should be kept as it is with cash with option for cards. Our literacy rate is 70% while the economic literacy is still 30% in India. Developed countries like EU UK USA Canada also use physical currency to the extent of 10% . So its very early in India to implement such measures.
