SILCHAR, Dec 8 - The Silchar Railway Station will soon be renamed as the Bhasha Shahid Station, Silchar.
This became clear after a letter from the Union Home Ministry was sent to the Additional Secretary, Home and Political Department, Government of Assam, stating that the Central Government has no objection to changing the name of the station to Bhasha Shahid Station, Silchar.

In a mail sent to media houses, members of the Sammilita Sanskritik Mancha have expressed satisfaction over the development. The organisation has been constantly pursuing the matter since the last several years. It is nice to get the positive response from the Government, the mail stated.
“The whole issue of renaming the station is linked to the sentiments of the people of the Barak Valley. We are happy that our appeals have been heeded by the Government,” said Dr Rajib Kar, general secretary of the Bhasha Shahid Station Shahid Smaran Samiti, which has been fighting to get the station renamed for a long time.
