under development. This section primarily involves tunneling, with 97.42 km out of 111 km being underground. The T-49 tunnel, at 12.77 km, will be India's longest transportation railway tunnel. The project also boasts the world's highest railway bridge over the Chenab River in Reasi, standing at 359 meters above the riverbed. Further development includes doubling the Baramulla-Banihal section, new lines for Baramulla-Uri, Sopore-Kupwara, Awantipora-Shopian, and Anantnag-Bijbehara-Pahalgam. The USBRL project has generated over 553 lakh man-days of indirect employment and constructed over 215 km of approach roads. Nine train pairs operate on the Kashmir Valley section, reducing travel time and improving passenger experience compared to bus services. Enhancements include the redevelopment of Jammu Tawi railway station, the addition of a Vistadome coach to a special Kashmir Valley train, and a guest house at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra railway station.
