आठ स्टेशन प्रस्तावित किए गए हैं। रेल मंत्री अश्विनी वैष्णव ने लोकसभा चुनाव में इस परियोजना की घोषणा की थी। रेललाइन के सर्वे के लिए रेल मंत्री द्वारा 2.3 करोड़ रुपये का बजट भी जारी करवाया गया। इस परियोजना से देहरादून और सहारनपुर के बीच की 112 किमी की दूरी घटकर 81 किमी रह जाएगी, और सफ़र सिर्फ़ डेढ़ घंटे में पूरा हो जाएगा। परियोजना दो चरणों में बनाई जा रही है, पहला चरण सहारनपुर से शाकंभरी देवी तक 40 किमी का है, और दूसरा चरण शाकंभरी देवी से देहरादून के हर्रावाला तक 41 किमी का है। इस परियोजना में 11 किमी लंबी सुरंग और 106 पुल भी बनाए जाएँगे।

Rail line ke survey ke liye 2.3 crore rupees ka budget bhi jaari kiya gaya. Is project se Dehradun aur Saharanpur ke beech ki 112 km ki duri ghatkar 81 km reh jaayegi, aur safar sirf 1.5 ghante mein poora ho jaayega. Project do phase mein banaya ja raha hai, pahla phase Saharanpur se Shakambhari Devi tak 40 km ka hai, aur dusra phase Shakambhari Devi se Dehradun ke Harrawala tak 41 km ka hai. Is project mein 11 km lambi tunnel aur 106 pul bhi banaye jaayenge.
