*Yard remodeling work complete at Khandwa Station*
During the yard remodeling work at Khandwa Station, the Electronic Interlocking (EI) work to connect Khandwa-Sanawad line from Khandwa Station was completed in phases. In the initial phase, which lasted for 60 days, major Overhead Electric activities were carried out, including the launching of a 54-meter special type of portal to handle 9 lines of OHE.
As part of this work, two new platforms were constructed with 24 coaches each to handle traffic coming to and fro from Ratlam. The work of increasing the speed of Down Yard Line Numbers 2 and 4 from 10 km/h to 30 km/h was completed. The main task of increasing the Permanent Speed Restriction (PSR) of 30 km/h to 110 km/h on the Down Main Line was also carried out, making the curve on the Down Main Line smoother.
The initial Non-Interlocking work was carried out for 16 days from 05/07/2024 to 20/07/2024, with 2 days of Non-Interlocking work included on 21/07/2024 and 22/07/2024. During the initial Non-Interlocking work, a daily traffic block of 3 hours was operated in the Up and Down directions respectively. 17 points and 5 derailing switches were installed in the initial Non-Interlocking work. The Non-Interlocking work was done under a 38-hour disconnection, from 08:00 am on 21/07/2024 to 10:00 pm on 22/07/2024, involving a 3-hour traffic block in the Down direction, a 3-hour traffic block in the Up direction, and a 4-hour Up and Down traffic block for testing and commissioning. Only one line was available for Up and Down traffic in each direction during the Non-Interlocking work. A total of 9 wagons were constructed, and 160 operational staff were involved in the Non-Interlocking work. During the Non-Interlocking work, a total of 59 Up trains and 60 Down trains were safely operated.
For the implementation of the Non-Interlocking work, 114 Mail/Express trains were canceled and the route of 79 Mail/Express trains was diverted. This work was completed smoothly without any unexpected delays, and the successful commissioning of the new Electronic Interlocking was done on 22/07/2024.
