The zonal railway has seen a substantial demand over the years, transporting a staggering 8,899 million passengers in the suburban network over the last decade (April 2014 to March 2024). The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has enhanced security measures for women passengers during the festive season, while the Sealdah and Howrah Divisions have arranged night-long local EMU services for Durga Puja festivities. New 12-coach local EMUs for the Sealdah Main section are likely to be formally flagged off by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Mahalaya.
