Maghar is associated with famous 15th century enlightened Saint, mystic poet and philosopher Kabir from Varanasi (Kashi). The town is located on the bank of Ami River. The Saint Kabir (1440-1518) lived & worked in Varanasi. Most of his beautiful poems, urging his countrymen to live in peace and religious harmony were composed here. He chose this place for his later years of life.
Kabir,s burial place in Maghar attracts a large number of pilgrims from both the communities.
.
Story goes like this that after his death (1518 AD) tussle took place between Hindus & Muslims over the issue of his last rites and when they lifted the cloth covering his body they found flowers instead of his dead body. They divided the flowers and performed the last rites as per Hindu & Muslim rituals simultaneously. His mazaar & Samadhisthal stand side by side & both these premises are interconnected. This is the unique example of co-existence of Hindu-Muslim

The present facade and shape of cave were restored about hundred years ago. 'Kabir-Dhuni' and 'Gorakh Talaiya' are located about 1 km away from Samadhi, near Kasarwal village on National Highway-28.
