There was a time when UP MP MH was in CR majorly, BPL div of CR did primary maintenance of Bhopal Shatabdi Express. the icf rake was allowed for 140 kmph operations.
CSTM as a HQ is good, Nasik demands trains to Delhi then LTT-HW AC and LTT NZM AC...
more... has GN quota seats in both of these trains, CST div's Kalwa car shed maintains the EMU of Pune, KYN ELS of CSTM div especially took CAM/2 locos for pune division, CR made NGP div 120 kmph long for NR's SBC/MAS Rajdhani, 3phase ELS in NGP div i.e AJNI is there and in SUR div, too Daund ELS is planned.
disadvantage of more zones is addition of slack at zonal boundaries example LTT NZM 60 mins slack in WCR-CR boundary... meaning more zones more slack, that is one of the reasons IR could not majorly speed up trains.
SECR is also good got BSP Rajdhani back to BSP after it was extended to Howrah, got Vidarbha exp extended from NGP to Gondia, 3phase ELS in Bhilai, Humsafar express started, soon the route will see a speed upgradation
SECR is a new zone like WCR n NCR, but SECR doesnt delay Howrah Mail o Gitanjali express like NCR WCR delays Punjab Mail or Jhelum Express,
SECR doesnt delay Howrah LTT Jnaneswari (erstwhile AC Express) or Howrah CST AC Duronto like NCR and WCR delay NZM LTT AC Express.
