The new-look Tallawong Railway station is nearing completion.
Tallawong is the first station to have been given the upgrade, and Transport Minister Andrew Constance pointed out the features that would help keep commuters safe.
On the Metro platforms, passengers are kept behind glass barriers until train doors open.
It is hoped this will help end accidents involving people slipping into the gap or off...
more... the platform edge.
"Having the glass screen doors, safeguarding commuters on the platform from an oncoming train, will make an incredible difference when it comes to passenger safety," Mr Constance said.
The system is also designed to maximise speed, with three doors per carriage, level access and the absence of stairs meaning passengers can enter and exit more quickly.
Mr Constance also denied reports platforms at Rouse Hill and Kellyville were sagging.
"What we need to do is just provide some strength into the bracing that holds the glass at a couple of stations," he said.
Sydney Metro Northwest goes from Rouse Hill to Chatswood and is due to open in the first half of 2019.
In the next two stages, the line continues through North Sydney, under the harbour to the city and on to Bankstown via Sydenham.
