Bengaluru: First electric train service to Nandi Hills from December 11

Starting December 11th, residents of Bengaluru can travel to Nandi Hills by electric train. The South Western Railway (SWR) is extending Memu trains from Devanahalli to Chikkaballapur, which will include stops at Nandi Halt. These trains are the 06531/06532 Bengaluru Cantonment-Chikballapur-Cantonment, 06535/06538 Chikkaballapur-Bengaluru Cantonment-Chikkaballapur, and 06593/06594 Yeswantpur-Chikkaballapur-Yeswantpur. Yelahanka and Chikkaballapur was completed in March 2022, the introduction of electric trains was delayed due to various reasons. Residents and rail enthusiasts have expressed concerns about the timing and lack of stoppages at intermediate stations. However, SWR plans to operate an early train to allow visitors to catch the sunrise at Nandi Hills once the Nandi Halt station restoration is complete in two months. SWR also plans to restore heritage stations and offer a one-day tour package on the historic Bengaluru-Devanahalli-Chikkaballapur rail route, which was the first railway network established by private enterprise in India.

11 December se, Bengaluru ke residents Nandi Hills jaa sakte hain electric train se. South Western Railway (SWR) Devanahalli se Chikkaballapur tak Memu trains extend kar raha hai, jisme Nandi Halt pe stop bhi hoga. Ye trains hain 06531/06532 Bengaluru Cantonment-Chikballapur-Cantonment, 06535/06538 Chikkaballapur-Bengaluru Cantonment-Chikkaballapur, aur 06593/06594 Yeswantpur-Chikkaballapur-Yeswantpur. aur Chikkaballapur ke beech electrification complete ho gaya tha, lekin kai karanon se electric trains start nahin ho paye. Residents aur rail enthusiasts ko timing aur intermediate stations pe stop na hone se pareshani hai. Lekin, SWR Nandi Halt station restore hone ke baad, do mahine mein, visitors ko Nandi Hills pe sunrise dekhne ke liye early train operate karega. SWR historic Bengaluru-Devanahalli-Chikkaballapur rail route pe heritage stations ko restore karne aur ek din ka tour package bhi launch karne ki planing kar raha hai, jo India mein private enterprise dwara establish kiya gaya pehla railway network tha.

Railways are bringing up BNC as starting point for these odd trains. Frequency should be hourly round the clock.
But how people from west/ south Bangalore will reach BNC? No direct buses from Kengeri/ Vijaynagara/ Rajajinagar/ Magadi road/ Jayanagar/ JP Nagar/ Kanakapura road/ Banneerghatta road/ Koramangala/ Sarjapur road etc. Dedicated BMTC bus services can help. Else this effort will be a flop.

Few of these should come from Kengeri, Mandya and even Mysuru, Tumakuru, Hassan, Kolar to KIAD Airport. It will help commuters.

Both railways and road transport authorities (KSRTC, BMTC) should work out proper plans for airport travellers.
To travel to Mysore, you have Flybus. What about Tumkur or Hassan or Hosur? Or even Chikkaballapur, Doddaballapura? Not even a single bus run by KSRTC or BMTC. Why can't few Sarige buses to Tumkur/ Hassan/ Mandya/ Kanakapura/ Hosur? or Rajahamsa buses to Hassan/ Shivamogga/ Chikmagalur/ Anantapur? AC bus to Tirupati will be a big hit. One has to go via Majestic adding to the big Majestic mess, just for changing a bus.

not ordinary BMTC or KSRTC to Chikkaballapura or Doddaballapura?
Similarly, there should be atleast one train from Hassan, Tumkur, Hosur, Salem, and Shivamogga, Anantapur, Kolar, Bamgarapet etc, apart from few dedicated local services from SBC WFD KJM KGI YPR.
