run between Jammu and Kashmir. The USBRL project is considered one of the most challenging railway projects undertaken in India since independence due to the difficult terrain of the young Himalayas. The project is 272 km long, with 161 km already commissioned. The 111 km Katra-Banihal section is the most challenging part, with 97.42 km of tunnels, including the 12.77 km long T-49 tunnel, which will be the longest railway tunnel in India. The estimated cost of the USBRL project is ₹37,012 crore, with ₹34,261 crore already spent by March 2023. An allocation of ₹5,310 crore has been made for the project in the 2023-24 fiscal year.

Project 272 km lamba hai, jisme se 161 km already commission ho chuka hai. 111 km Katra-Banihal section sabse challenging part hai, jisme 97.42 km tunnel hai, jisme se 12.77 km lamba T-49 tunnel hai, jo India ka sabse lamba railway tunnel hoga.
