CORE's role has been reduced to simply tendering work, leading to opposition from rail unions. The responsibility for CORE's work has been transferred to regional railways. However, due to delays in the electrification project of the Ayodhya-Barabanki railway line, the North Eastern Railway had to rely on CORE again. The Northern Railway Men's Union has now sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting that regional railways are unable to handle the tasks taken away from CORE.

Ab ek baar phir PMO se guhaar lagayi gai hai. 2022 mein, Finance Ministry ke Economic Advisor Sanjiv Sanyal ne apni report mein kaha tha ki CORE sirf tender ka kaam karti hai. Tab rail union ne is baat ka khada virodh kiya tha. Uske baad CORE ke saare kaam alag-alag regional railways ko saup diye gaye. Lekin Ayodhya mein Pran Pratiṣṭhā Samaroh ke pehle Ayodhya-Barabanki railway line ke vidyutikaran kaam mein der hone ke karan, North Eastern Railway ko phir se CORE ki yaad aayi. Ab Northern Railway Men's Union ne Pradhan Mantri Narendra Modi ko patra bheja hai. Is patra mein kaha gaya hai ki CORE se jo kaam chheen kar regional railways ko diye gaye the, woh ab woh kaam nahin kar paa rahe hain.
