To further boost safety, over 835 CCTV cameras have been installed at SWR stations, with plans to install an additional 2700 cameras across 228 stations. The SWR leverages social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Koo to address passenger concerns, and the 24x7 helpline number 139 provides crucial assistance for safety-related issues. The SWR has implemented initiatives like adequate lighting in critical areas, dedicated women's coaches, and the 'Meri Saheli' program to create a safe environment for women. The 'Meri Saheli' program focuses on the safety of women traveling alone, utilizing the Passenger Information System (PIS) to identify such passengers and provide support through real-time monitoring, SMS alerts, and GPS tracking. The SWR has also introduced the 'Operation Nanhe Farishte' initiative to protect children traveling on trains, successfully rescuing 169 girls and 709 boys in 2022 and 81 girls and 325 boys in 2023. The SWR's efforts have also resulted in the detection of 113 theft cases and the recovery of stolen goods worth ₹74,797 in 2022, and 33 theft cases and the recovery of stolen goods worth ₹2,81,599 in 2023. To provide a safe and private space for breastfeeding mothers, the SWR has installed nursing pods at major railway stations and sanitary pad vending machines at women's restrooms and stations to promote hygiene.
