The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MMRCL) has proposed to the Bombay High Court committee that it will only replace 119 out of 257 trees that were cut down for the Mumbai Metro 3 line project. The court had formed the committee to investigate irregularities in the tree removal process. The...

committee, led by Justice Revati Mohite-Dere and Sarang Kotwal, found that no trees were planted as per the proposed plan and that there was no space for replanting trees on footpaths. MMRCL has stated that replanting cannot be started until construction is complete and has assured the court that the process will be completed within six months. Despite MMRCL's claims of geotagging and QR code implementation, the report found insufficient geotagging. In April 2023, the Supreme Court fined MMRCL ₹10 lakh for seeking permission to cut down or transplant 177 trees. Previously, the court had allowed the felling of only 84 trees. In October 2023, the Bombay High Court panel stressed the need for MMRCL to care for the transplanted trees until the completion of the Metro-3 car shed project, expressing concerns about the low survival rate of transplanted trees, which was slightly over 35%. In December 2023, MMRCL claimed that they could only replant 40% of the trees due to space constraints at station sites. As a result, a panel was instructed to inspect four metro stations and report on any issues.

Mumbai Metro 3 line project ke liye 257 trees cut kar diye gaye. MMRCL ab Bombay High Court committee ko propose kar raha hai ki woh sirf 119 trees hi replace karega. Court ne yeh committee banayi thi ki tree removal process mein koi irregularity toh nahi hai. Committee, Justice Revati...

Is wajah se, ek panel ko chaar metro stations inspect karne aur koi bhi issue ho toh report karne ka nirdhesh diya gaya.
