claim for compensation. The High Court directed the Railways to pay ₹4 lakh with 7% interest, stating that the total compensation to the family should not be less than ₹8 lakh. The woman and her sister mistakenly boarded the Tuticorin Express instead of the Tirupati Passenger bound for Ashokpur/Mysuru. Realizing their mistake after the train started moving, the woman attempted to get off the train, fell on the platform, and sustained severe injuries. She died during treatment. The Railway Claims Tribunal had dismissed the family's claim, citing the woman's failure to use other options like continuing her journey to the next station or pulling the alarm chain. The Tribunal had ruled that the woman's death was a self-inflicted injury under Section 124-A of the Indian Railways Act. The Karnataka High Court disagreed with the Tribunal's interpretation and stated that the woman's death was due to an unfortunate incident. The judge criticized the Tribunal's reliance on Section 124-A, arguing it was wrongly applied in this case.
