Karol Bagh, New Delhi, were presented before the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class Vertika Shubhanand on Saturday. The court remanded them in judicial custody for 14 days. Both stated that the recovered gold was brought from Bangladesh and Myanmar to West Bengal, where other smugglers transported it to Varanasi. They were travelling from Banaras to New Delhi with gold and jewellery. The DRI team will further question other members of the syndicate. Both admitted the gold was of foreign origin, smuggled into the country. They were carrying it to deliver to a jeweller named Prashant Hanra in Delhi. They had obtained the gold from a person named Chandu through a jewellery store named Honey Jewellery in Varanasi. The DRI team will also investigate jewellery businesses in Varanasi and New Delhi.
