The project was announced in 2017 by the then Railway Minister Piyush Goyal, but delays occurred due to land acquisition hurdles. The new railway line will be approximately 240 kilometers long, connecting Khalilabad to Bahraich. The first phase involves constructing 54 kilometers from Khalilabad to Bansi, requiring the acquisition of 142 hectares of land from 56 villages in Sant Kabir Nagar and Siddharthnagar districts. The initial land acquisition process was halted due to a change in the alignment, but now it is moving forward.
