completed under a state funding scheme, an additional 2,139 roads are proposed for relaying under various other schemes. Despite completing 3,304 road relaying projects in FY 2022-23, work on 96 roads is ongoing, and 50 remain to be undertaken. In FY 2023-24, 5,319 roads were completed, but 369 are in progress, 481 are yet to start, and 348 were dropped. The GCC cites rain, disruptions from other service departments like the CMWSSB and TANGEDCO, and safety testing as reasons for delays and project cancellations. Residents continue to complain about the condition of roads in various areas like Nanganallur, Nandambakkam, Chinna Porur, West Mambalam, Mylapore, Ambattur, and Korattur. Concerns are raised about road safety with schools reopening on June 10. A PhD scholar from Anna University reported persistent issues with the Mugalivakkam main road and a resident from Neelankarai highlighted delays caused by CMWSSB and TANGEDCO work in their area. Residents in Madipakkam also voiced complaints about the condition of roads following recent rains. The GCC Chief Engineer acknowledged the difficulties caused by continuous testing after other departments complete their work, emphasizing the importance of public safety.
