The driverless operation was first introduced in December 2020 on the Magenta Line and extended to the Pink Line in November 2021. The DMRC expects to purchase 312 coaches (52 trains) for driverless operations in Phase IV. Construction of the Phase IV corridors began in December 2019 and is expected to be completed by 2026 despite delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
