The South Central Railway (SCR) is pushing for the development of new railway lines in Telangana. 973 hectares already secured out of the required 1,073.7 hectares. The project is being undertaken on a cost-sharing basis, with the Telangana government contributing ₹926.93 crore out of the total revised budget of ₹1,411.79 crore. The Akkannapet-Medak line, spanning 17.2 km, is estimated to cost ₹205.68 crore, with the Telangana government responsible for 50% of the funding and land acquisition. The state has contributed ₹98.87 crore towards the project, leaving a balance of ₹3.87 crore to be released. The third project, the Bhadrachalam-Kovvur line, spans 151 km, with 46 km falling within Telangana. The project's total cost is estimated at ₹1,022.87 crore, with the railway contributing ₹511.5 crore and the state government contributing ₹387.21 crore, including land acquisition costs of ₹124.22 crore. In addition to these lines, the SCR is also seeking permission for the construction of road underbridges at level crossings in various sections. They are also awaiting the completion of substations by the TG Transmission Corporation to enable the full operation of electric traction in the Timmapur, Jankampet, and Maktal sections.
