The national carrier has also floated a tender for installing Kavach systems on 30 train sets at the Rail Coach Factory in Kapurthala, Punjab. The Kavach system is estimated to cost Rs 50 lakh per km for trackside equipment and Rs 70 lakh per locomotive. The slow rollout of Kavach has been attributed to capacity constraints of existing vendors and the lengthy process for onboarding new ones.
