Long-term suggestions included the construction of new broad gauge lines to connect Sivasagar with Jorhat, Salona with Khumtai, and Dibrugarh with Kanubari, the rationalization of train routes to and from the northeast, the development of Dhamalgaon Jn, and the introduction of metro services in Guwahati.
