The project was initially expected to be completed in October 2020 but was delayed due to various factors including utility relocation, encroachment, and land acquisition. The CR plans to cancel, shorten, or terminate some long-distance and suburban trains due to the ongoing work. In 2022, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) criticized the BMC and other authorities for the delay in the project.

Project ko pehle October 2020 mein complete hone ki ummid thi, lekin utility relocation, encroachment aur land acquisition jaise factors ke karan delay ho gaya. CR ka plan hai ki ongoing work ke karan, kuchh long-distance aur suburban trains ko cancel, short terminate ya terminate kiya jaaye. 2022 mein, Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) ne BMC aur dusre authorities ko project mein delay ke liye criticise kiya tha.
