This was one of the major spot for many malayalam and Tamil films because of its famous banyan trees which used to cover the station.however now there are only less trees.

Muthalamada Railway station is unique because it has several old banyan trees on the platform. During the gauge conversion and station renovation, railways decided to cut all these old trees down. But by the involvement of environment activities and local public southern railways decided not to cut these gems. Thank you Indian railways for preserving these old trees and keeping this small station unique. A video follows.
