This new railway line will improve connectivity to the Indo-Nepal border area, boost the local agricultural industry, and provide an alternate route for trains travelling from North India to the Northeast. The project includes the construction of 9 major and 14 minor bridges, and will have 7 stations: Anandnagar Junction, Maharajganj, Ghughuli Crossing, Parsia Bujurg Halt, Pakri Nauania Halt, Shikarpur Halt, and Pipra Munderi Halt. The Ministry of Railways approved the Anandnagar-Ghughli new railway line in March 2019. The detailed project report (DPR) was submitted to the Railway Board after the completion of the survey for the 50 km new railway line. Stations are proposed at Chautarwa, Pakri Nauwania, Maharajganj, Shikarpur and Harpur, with Ghughli station functioning as a junction. This new railway line will serve as an alternative route for the Northeast Railway (NER), easing traffic congestion in Gorakhpur Junction. It will also enable faster movement of freight trains from Bihar and Assam to Delhi and Punjab, as well as improve passenger train schedules by minimizing stops.
