হত। আপ ও ডাউন উভয় ট্রেন কে ক্রসিংয়ের জন্য বলগোনা স্টেশনে সময়ে পৌঁছাতে হতো। পূর্ব রেলের এক উচ্চ পদস্থ আধিকারিক, ২০০৭ সালে এই রুটে লাইট ট্রেনে চড়ার যে বর্ণনা রিপোর্টে লিপিবদ্ধ করেছিলেন, তা নিম্নরূপ-
"The train waited for less than an hour before it returned to Katwa. Engine BK1 made little puffs of steam as it shunted, while a beggar peered in at the open swinging carriage doors, alternately moaning his distress and slurping an icy pole. The broad gauge could be heard – electric toots and diesel growlings – but was hidden by sheds. The land west of the Hooghly, though still alluvial and flat, is not as wet as riverine Bengal. Its fields, though usually covered with close-cropped green grass, bear but one crop a year and lie open, instead of being divided by watercourses and frequent villages. ২০১২ সাল পর্যন্ত এই রুটে লাইট ট্রেন পরিষেবা চালু ছিল। ২০১৩ সালে পূর্ব রেল, বর্ধমান থেকে বলগোনা পর্যন্ত, ২৬ কিমি দীর্ঘ ন্যারো গজ লাইন কে ৫ ফুট ৬ ইঞ্চির (১৬৭৬ মিমি) ব্রড গজ লাইনে রূপান্তর ও বৈদ্যুতিকরনের কাজ সম্পূর্ন করে। বলগোনা স্টেশন থেকে কাটোয়া পর্যন্ত লাইনে লাইট ট্রেন সার্ভিস ২০১৫ সাল পর্যন্ত চালু ছিল। বলগোনা থেকে কাটোয়া পর্যন্ত বাকি ২৬ কিমি দীর্ঘ ন্যারো গজ লাইন ২০১৫ সালে ৫ ফুট ৬ ইঞ্চির (১৬৭৬ মিমি) ব্রড গজ লাইনে রূপান্তরিত করে বৈদ্যুতিক করে দেওয়া হয়।
