The NER has received INR 1057 crore for doubling and tripling tracks, which will accelerate the development of the Gorakhpur Cantt.-Valmikinagar, Bhatni-Aunrihar, and Kusmhi-Gorakhpur-Domingarh lines. The Khalilabad-Shravasti-Balrampur line will be constructed in three phases, with the first phase (Khalilabad-Bansi, 27 km) scheduled for completion in March 2025. The Sahjanwa-Dohrighat line, with trains designed to run at 160 km/h, will also be built in three phases, culminating in the completion of the final phase (Golabazar-New Dohrighat, 25.5 km) in March 2027.

It will also include 12 bridges (including one major bridge), 13 underpasses, and electrification. This will reduce congestion at Gorakhpur Junction, which currently experiences a 50% overload of trains.
