lines. The existing narrow gauge line between Bahraich and Nepalganj, spanning 56.15 kilometers, will be converted to broad gauge at a cost of 342 crores by the Ministry of Railways. The first installment of 180 crores has been released to NER, and work has started after the tender for 85 crores was awarded. This project will facilitate train travel to Nepal from Bahraich and establish a direct connection between Nepalganj and major cities via Bahraich and Gonda. The project involves the construction of four major bridges and 19 smaller ones. The work is divided into two phases: first, the 35.61 km stretch from Bahraich to Nanpara, followed by the 20.54 km section from Nanpara to Nepalganj. This phased approach is expected to expedite the overall project completion.

The 240-kilometer line, starting at Khalilabad and ending at Bahraich, will pass through various towns including Mehdawal, Dumriaganj, Utraula, Shravasti, Bhinga, and Bahraich. The project, approved in October 2018, has a budget of 4940 crores and aims to be completed by 2025. Land acquisition is underway, with 20 kilometers already acquired.
