Currently, only the Narmada bridge at Mortakka, the new Omkareshwar Road station building, and the Mahu-Patalpani broad gauge line are under construction. The most time-consuming part of the project will be the construction of bridges, tunnels, and culverts in the hilly section. Last year, the railway only issued a tender for one tunnel between Mahu and Balwada, which hasn't even started. In 2021, RITES (Rail India Technical and Economic Services Limited) conducted a survey for the Mahu-Sanawad broad gauge line, which was completed in June 2023. The new alignment for the Mahu-Sanawad broad gauge line will divert the track from Patalpani, passing through Badhia, Beka, Kulthana, Rajpura, and reaching Chorl, with stations being constructed at these locations. A new station will also be constructed in Chorl. The line will merge with the old meter gauge alignment near Mukhtyara Balwada, approximately six kilometers prior. The 71 km rail section will have 21 tunnels, large and small. Due to the hilly terrain, 36 major bridges, 76 minor bridges, 12 underpasses, and overpasses will be constructed. The project has received 2498 crores in the last three years, with 888 crores in 2022, 700 crores in 2023, and 910 crores in 2024. Despite this, the progress of the project remains slow. A 900 meter long bridge is being constructed over the Narmada River, starting in January 2023 at a cost exceeding 100 crores. The old bridge has been demolished, and 16 pillars are being built for the new bridge, with the maximum height reaching 35 meters. The completion of this bridge is targeted for September of this year. The Mahu-Sanawad broad gauge line project is to be completed in two phases: Mahu-Balwada and Balwada-Barwaha. 21 tunnels are to be constructed between Mahu and Balwada, including a 4.1 km long tunnel for which a tender has been issued, while the rest remain pending. The completion of the project is targeted for 2026. Upon completion of the project, Indore will have direct connectivity to Maharashtra and Telangana. Currently, one has to travel through Ratlam, Bhopal, or Itarsi to reach Mumbai. Once completed, trains from Indore to Maharashtra and Telangana will pass through Khandwa. Khemraj Meena, PRO, Ratlam Division, stated that the Mahu-Sanawad broad gauge line project will be completed with priority and tenders will be issued soon, starting work on the ground.

Is bridge ka kaam isi varshe September tak pura karne ka lakshya nirdharit kiya gaya hai. Do hisson mein taiyaar hona hai project. Rail afsaron ke anusar Mahu-Sanawad broad gauge line project ko do hisson Mahu-Balwada aur Balwada-Barwaha mein pura kiya jaana hai. Mahu-Balwada ke beech 21 tunnel banayi jaani hai. Inmein sabse badi 4.1 km lambi tunnel ka tender jaari ho chuka hai, baki ke tender ab tak jaari nahin hue hain. Is project pura karne ka lakshya 2026 tak rakha gaya hai. Yeh hoga fayda. Is project ke pura hote hi Indore ki seedhi connectivity Maharashtra, Telangana se ho jaayegi. Abhi Ratlam, Bhopal ya Itarsi hokar Mumbai jaana padta hai. Project pura hone par Indore se Khandwa hokar train Maharashtra, Telangana ke liye aa-ja sakegi.
