In February 2023, the Union Railway Minister approved ₹4.75 crore for a detailed plan to connect Ujjain to Jhalawar via Agar, Susner, Soyatkalan, and Raipur. The three plans are still under finalization and were presented to MP Anil Firojiya on October 5th, 2023. A narrow gauge train operated between Ujjain and Agar from 1932 to 1975. The engine of that train (worth ₹1,61,276 at the time) is still displayed at Ujjain Railway Station. Western Central Railway had already started train operations between Jhalawar and Ramganj Mandi a decade ago. However, a direct line between Ujjain and Jhalawar remains on paper. Currently, passengers have to travel to Jhalawar via Ramganj Mandi, with trains departing at 8:10 am, 3:58 pm, and 8:45 pm. To improve connectivity, the National Highways Authority has converted the road from Ujjain to Ghonsla into a four-lane highway. The road to Jhalawar is 10 meters wide and is slated for four-laning before the 2028 Simhastha Kumbh Mela.

Teen plans abhi bhi finalization ke stage mein hain aur inko 5 October 2023 ko MP Anil Firojiya ke samne present kiya gaya tha. 1932 se 1975 tak Ujjain aur Agar ke beech ek narrow gauge train chalti thi. Us train ka engine (jo us time ₹1,61,276 ka tha) aaj bhi Ujjain Railway Station par display kiya gaya hai. Western Central Railway ne ek decade pehle Jhalawar se Ramganj Mandi tak rail line bichakar train operation shuru ki thi. Lekin Ujjain aur Jhalawar ke beech rail line abhi bhi paper par hi hai. Is samay, passengers ko Jhalawar jane ke liye Ramganj Mandi station utarna padta hai, jaha se trains subah 8:10 am, dopahar 3:58 pm aur raat 8:45 pm par chalti hain. Connectivity ko behtar banane ke liye, National Highways Authority ne Ujjain se Ghonsla tak ka rasta four-lane highway mein convert kiya hai. Jhalawar tak ki sadak 10 meter chaudi hai aur isko 2028 Simhastha Kumbh Mela se pehle four-lane mein convert karne ki plan hai.

The budget allocation for WCR's projects and other expenses includes: ₹2480 crore for new lines, ₹1372 crore for doubling/tripling, ₹140 crore for traffic facilities and yard remodeling, ₹15 crore for road safety works (level crossings), ₹627 crore for road safety works (RUB/ROB), ₹970 crore for track renewal, ₹121 crore for bridge and tunnel works, ₹236 crore for signaling and telecommunications, ₹105 crore for electrical works (TRD), ₹379 crore for passenger amenities, and ₹103 crore for factories and production units. Key new lines and projects include: Lalitpur-Satna, Rewa-Singrauli, and Mahoba-Khajuraho new railway line (541 km) - ₹850 crore, Ramganjmandi-Bhopal new railway line (262 km) - ₹523 crore, Jabalpur-Indore new railway line (342 km) - ₹1107 crore, Budni-Barkheda third line - ₹200 crore, Katni-Singrauli doubling (261 km) - ₹400 crore, Katni-Bina third line (278 km) - ₹350 crore, and Katni grade separator viaduct (21.5 km) - ₹300 crore. Sant Hirdaram Nagar aur Bhopal ke beech 10 km ka stretch pehle se hi operational hai. Sant Hirdaram aur Kuravar ke beech kaam bahut tez chal raha hai, aur Kuravar aur Byavara, Rajgarh ke beech ka section jaldi hi complete hone wala hai. Is project ka maqsad travel time ko kam karna aur transportation efficiency ko badhana hai.
