The current proposal follows a longer route, via Korea and Surajpur districts, covering 207 kilometers. The shorter route is considered more practical due to its existing connection to coal mines, which transport coal to various locations in India, including Rajasthan, via this route. The route would also provide better connectivity for the residents of Sarguja region, reducing their travel time to Raipur by six hours and to Delhi by 13 hours.

This special train service is being introduced to accommodate the increased passenger traffic, especially during festivals like Chhath Puja, in the states bordering Bihar.
