The three cancelled passenger trains were the 05259 Muzaffarpur-Narkatiaganj, 05287 Muzaffarpur-Raxaul, and 05508 Mehsi-Raxaul MEMU trains. The 15216 Narkatiaganj-Intercity train was terminated at Semra station, and the Muzaffarpur-Narkatiaganj MEMU passenger train was stopped at Jiwdhara. Passengers on the three cancelled passenger trains faced difficulties as they had already boarded the 05259 and 05508 trains. The sudden cancellation led to confusion and a crowd gathered at the inquiry counter, leading to a near riot situation. The RPF managed to control the crowd.

The derailed PCT machine was reportedly involved in track maintenance work when the incident occurred. Two tower wagons were brought from Sugauli and Muzaffarpur to assist the engineering team in the restoration process. Due to the incident, train number 09451 Gandhi-dham-Bhagalpur Express and 15002 Dehradun-Muzaffarpur Express, which had been standing at Motihari station for about two hours, were diverted back to Sugauli and then sent to Muzaffarpur via the Sugauli-Raxoul-Sitamarhi route. Additionally, the routes of train numbers 19270 Muzaffarpur-Porbandar Express and 19037 Bandra-Barauni Express were also diverted. Train number 15216 Narkatiaganj-Muzaffarpur Express was short-terminated at Semra station, and 05257 Muzaffarpur-Narkatiaganj passenger train was short-terminated at Jiwdhara station. Trains 05508 Mehsi-Raxoul Passenger, 05259 Muzaffarpur-Narkatiaganj Passenger, and 05287 Muzaffarpur-Raxoul Passenger were canceled due to the disruption. The Chief Safety Officer of the Eastern Railway, Prabhat Kumar, and the Divisional Railway Manager of Samastipur, Vinay Srivastava, have been dispatched to the accident site.
