more... Express, which connects Kolkata to Dhaka, was attacked near Iswardihi station in Bangladesh on Sunday afternoon, an hour after it crossed the Indian border at Gede.
The incident took place around 2pm when three petrol bombs were hurled at the train's engine near Fateh Muhammudpur Gorosthan in Pabna district.
There was no casualty , but the train was brought back to Iswardihi station for a security check. Later, it was allowed to move to Dhaka. The BNPled 20 party alliance has called a 72-hour bandh and is trying to enforce a blockade in Bangladesh. So, the Bangladesh government is probing why the attack on the train took place.
Maitree Express now runs six days a week.The Indian rake, which was travelling to Dhaka and was attacked, is expected to return on Monday . It will again travel to Dhaka on Tuesday to return on Wednesday . The Indian rake has a capacity of 469 passengers, while the Bangladeshi rake has a capacity of 418 passengers.
