Dilip Kumar, executive director of information & publicity (ED/IP), Railway Board said "Information has been received about the accident of 12578 Bagmati Express. So far, the relief and rescue team from the railway has reached the accident site and the work of evacuating passengers from all the coaches is going on. More than 90% of the passengers have been evacuated. We have not received any information of any casualty or serious injury so far. Both the relief team and the medical team are present at the accident site. GM Sadan Railway and DRM Sadan Chennai Division have left for the accident site. Necessary arrangements are being made by the railway from Chennai station to take the rest of the passengers to their destination..."

Luckyly there was no General coach in the collision.
Freight train also sustained some impact since it was empty.

Observing that the collision might have happened at around 2030 hrs, trains bound to Chennai and even Tirupati started getting delayed minutes after the accident happened all over SCR. Wondering whether it's coincidence or they are just spectacularly fast in communicating such news?

Not a day passes without accident. Total overhaul of Indian railway needed.
I. Diversion of trains:
I think if a technology is being advertised as fool-proof, and has failed more than twice in a span of a year, causing two major accidents in a similar fashion.
Perhaps it's time to re-look into the implementation of the said technology, or work on betterment of it. Rather than assuring people it's fool-proof and calling it a day.
