Yes all this makes us think why the station was modified for almost 3 months in Nov 2019 to Feb 2020 if they had to remove even the existing trains to other stations! YNRK could have got new trains,now DDN has no train to Maharashtra, MP, or any South Indian state!!!! Great planning by IR.
No increment in no. of coaches of trains according to extension of platform length.
IMO, YNRK is having high foot fall due to Kumbh Mela. After that I dont think it would get much passengers. It would be same like RKSH. The reason is that people prefer HW over Rishikesh. It would get pax on either side acc to passengers choice.

What is the main reason for cancelling so many trains from Dehradun?
IR has transferred majority of trains originating from DDN to YNRK. However this transfer has meant that despite being a state capital DDN lost direct connectivity to all Southern states, Mumbai, MP, and Punjab. Reasons best known to IR. This happened despite a big revamp of the station in 2019-20.
Now Madurai/Chennai has no direct connectivity to YNRK also. Only south connectivity from YNRK is YNRK-Kochuveli SF Exp. Wish IR would re-establish the DDN Connectivity soon.

Looking purely at it's speed, one had think this is a meter gauge train. Is the entire route single diesel?

Ab Single Electrified route ho chuka hai wo ab bhi 50kmph pr hi trains chal rahi waha pr Railway ko waha duhan dena chahiye aur 50 se 80,100kmph tk speed upgrade karni chahiye.
Okay , did not travel in mussori exp after aug 2019.
But travelled in main route GZB mtc MFP rok and hw in 2055 in sept .so don't have idea about electrification and Speed

Mussoorie Express gave a very convenient full night sleep to passengers travelling to and fro Delhi and Dehra Dun/Kotdwar. Of course times have changed and a lot prefer the faster Nanda Devi Express (at the cost of sleep)
