The Chauri Chaura Express was traveling from Gorakhpur to Kanpur and was near Bharwari station at 9:20 am when smoke started coming out of one coach. Passengers panicked and jumped out of the train. Smoke also filled two sleeper coaches adjacent to the Din Dayal coach, causing further panic. The loco pilot informed the technical team and the Bharwari station master. RPF and railway staff brought the fire under control using switch fire. The fire was reportedly caused by jammed disc brakes. The train departed for its destination at 10:10 am, 50 minutes after the fire was extinguished. The incident occurred due to excessive heat causing the brakes to bind while the train was stopped at Bharwari station, resulting in smoke. No other trains were affected and rail traffic remained normal.
