The new train schedule features 9 stops, including Kiul, Abhayapur, Jamalpur, and Munger, with a departure time of 6:10 AM from Rajgir and an arrival time of 1:00 PM in Khagaria. The return train, departing from Khagaria at 2:00 PM, will reach Rajgir at 8:20 PM.

The extension is also expected to boost trade between different states and districts, as many businesses in Munger, Jamalpur, Lakhisarai, and Saharsa travel to Varanasi and Yesvantpur for business purposes. The existing routes of these trains are: Train number 14224 Varanasi Rajgir Buddha Purnima Express, which departs from Varanasi at 8:30 AM and reaches Rajgir at 6:00 AM the next day; and Train number 22352 Patliputra Yesvantpur Express, which departs from Bengaluru at 1:50 PM and reaches Patliputra at 10:25 AM on the third day. Officials have confirmed the proposed extension to Saharsa and hope it will provide much-needed convenience to passengers traveling between Patna, Rajgir, Kiul, Jamalpur, Munger, and Saharsa.

To improve passenger convenience, train number 14223/14224 Rajgir-Varanasi-Rajgir Buddha Purnima Express will now have a 2-minute stopover at Harnaut station, and train number 13233/13234 Rajgir-Danapur-Rajgir Intercity Express will have a 2-minute stopover at Nalanda station on an experimental basis.
