A Travel tip (avail on your own discretion) If you have a connecting train from MAQ(Mangalore Central) and by any chance 12133 is late, one can get down at Surathkal station board an auto and reach MAQ in just 30 min, though the auto charges are bit high ~ 300-350, at least you wont miss the connecting train(e.g - 16348).
Coz at times 12133 is slowed down after Surathkal.

This tip doesn't hold now. It takes an hour to reach MAQ by road from Surathkal and autos charge 400-500. Trains cover the distance in 25 minutes.since the Jokatte MAJN section is doubled.

If travelling from Mumbai to Kumta/Bhatkal/kundapura, better to book till udupi as it is GNWL and getting confirmed seats is almost easily possible

This tip is from my recent travel in both 12133 and 12134 in 3AC in the month of Oct 2023. Please find the details below:

1. Punctuality: The Mangaluru Express is one of the least punctual trains running on the KR section. 12133 CSMT MAJN SF reaches Kumta with about an hour delay and further MAJN with an average delay of 2 hrs. 12134 starts late due to the late arrival of 12133 and gets delayed by an average of 5 hrs daily while reaching Mumbai. which was known for the priority in the Konkan section. I would still suggest booking in 12133 as a couple of hrs of delay is understandable but think twice before booking in 12134 as the 5 hrs average delay has been happening for atleast the last couple of years. If you have ample time, this would be the best train as the cleanliness and other facilities are good.

2. Cleanliness: The train is very well maintained and there is Onboard Housekeeping. The cleaning staff does a good job in both 12133 as well as 12134. After 12133 arrives at Mangaluru, they lock the doors and clean the entire coach for about 30 mins after which you may board it. I would give a 10/10 for the cleanliness

3. Food: This train does not have a panty car and you have to depend on the food loaded in the intermediate stations. In 12133, there was one vendor selling dinner and water after departure from Thane but I would strictly advice against depending on it. The Breakfast in 12133 is loaded from Kankavali and includes items like Tea, Coffee (Rs. 10), Upma (Rs. 25) Bread Omlette (50) Idli Sambhar. The taste was very good and seemed fresh. Goli Bajji is loaded from Karwar.
While in 12134, our train was delayed by 4 hrs at Kumta and hence Dinner was loaded at Kumta. I am not sure if it is the same case in regular run when there is no delay (which I guess hasn't happened in the past 2 years). Dinner in 12134 includes Veg Biryani with Raita (Rs. 90), Chicken Biryani without Raita (Rs. 120), Roti with Egg Curry and Tomato Soup. Veg Biryani and Chicken Biryani Tasted good and the dinner was from Ravikiran Catering Contractors Kumta.

4. Coaches: It still runs with ICF Coaches but the 3AC cooling is very good. The berths, toilets, etc. are also in good condition. In 12133, B4 Coach has RAC Passengers and avoid it if possible.

Overall: The cleanliness and overnight schedule of the train is the biggest advantage but the delays are a big concern. If you don't have a tight schedule and want to have a good journey, you may choose this train.

Once a Legendary Rocket, now it has been degraded to a passenger train.

Ya tip meri haal hi mein hui yatra se hai in dono trains mein, 12133 aur 12134, 3AC mein Oct 2023 ke mahine mein. Neeche details milenge:

1. Punctuality: Mangaluru Express sabse kam samay par chalti trains mein se ek hai KR section mein. 12133 CSMT MAJN SF Kumta tak lagbhag ek ghante der se pahunchti hai aur MAJN tak average 2 ghante der se pahunchti hai. 12134 late start hoti hai 12133 ke late pahunchne ki wajah se aur Mumbai tak average 5 ghante der se pahunchti hai rozana. Railways ne poori tarah se ek train ko ignore kar diya hai jise Konkan section mein priority ke liye jaana jaata tha. Main suggest karunga ki 12133 mein booking kar lo kyunki 2 ghante ki der samajh me aati hai, lekin 12134 mein booking karne se pehle do baar sochna chahiye kyunki last couple of years se 5 ghante ki average der lagataar hoti hai. Agar bohot time hai toh yeh best train hogi kyunki safai aur facilities ache hai.

2. Cleanliness: Train ka bohot acche se maintain kiya jaata hai aur Onboard Housekeeping hoti hai. Cleaning staff achha kaam karti hai dono trains mein, 12133 aur 12134 mein. Jab 12133 Mangaluru pahunchti hai, woh darwaze lock kar dete hain aur 30 min tak poori coach ko saaf karte hain, uske baad board kar sakte ho. Main 10/10 dunga safai ke liye.

3. Food: Is train mein pantry car nahi hai aur tumhe intermediate stations me load ki hui food par nirbhar rahna padega. 12133 mein Thane se nikalne ke baad ek vendor dinner aur paani bech raha tha lekin main strongly suggest karunga ki uspar nirbhar na ho. 12133 mein Breakfast Kankavali se load hota hai jisme Tea, Coffee (Rs. 10), Upma (Rs. 25), Bread Omlette (50), Idli Sambhar aate hain. Swad bohot accha tha aur fresh lag raha tha. Goli Bajji Karwar se load hota hai.
Jab 12134 mein humari train Kumta mein 4 ghante late thi to Dinner Kumta se load kiya gaya tha. Main sure nahi hoon ki agar regular run me der na ho (jo last 2 saalon me hua nahi), toh kya yeh waisa hi hota hai. 12134 mein Dinner me Veg Biryani with Raita (Rs. 90), Chicken Biryani without Raita (Rs. 120), Roti with Egg Curry aur Tomato Soup aate hain. Veg Biryani aur Chicken Biryani achhe the aur dinner Ravikiran Catering Contractors Kumta se tha.

4. Coaches: Yeh ab bhi ICF Coaches ke saath chalti hai lekin 3AC cooling bohot acchi hai. Births, toilets, etc. bhi acchi condition me hain. 12133 mein B4 Coach me RAC Passengers hain, agar possible ho toh avoid karo.

Overall: Train ki safai aur overnight schedule sabse bada fayda hai lekin delays bada concern hai. Agar tight schedule nahi hai aur achhi yatra karna hai toh yeh train choose kar sakte ho.

Ek samay ka Legendary Rocket, ab yeh passenger train ban gayi hai.

The Train's Coach composition is inverted in the alternate days.
I traveled on this train which departed from CSTM on 11th of June and the CC was
LOCO-SLR-S1-S2-S3-S4-S5-S6-S7-S8-B1-B2-AB1-A1-GEN-SLR

Agreed with great happiness... This is the best ONT between Mao and Mumbai... Speed and Clean even in monsoon. But punctuality it is too bad, but still ok.
