PRS booking clerk can choose the coach.. n even seat numbers..
my own experience--
in 2004/05 i guess i went to book a ticket in 12304.. few of my friend's were also traveling in 12304 on same day.. i asked to booking clerk if he can book tickets in S-2 coach? he told-- haan beta tum apne doston ka seat number batao to aaspas ki seat de doonga.. ab mujhe seat number to yaad nahin tha still he gave me a ticket in S-2 :)

Agree, once I had booked two seats in Pnbe Raj from New Delhi to Patna and later I had to take my sister alongwith me, I went to PRS, I told him to book the seat in same coach, he took my previous ticket and later when he booked the ticket for my sister, it was in same coach and that too in same cabin. My seats were 34 and 35 and the seat alloted for my sister was 36..

I guess that guy was lazy. Actually he can know which coach and which compartment seats are vacant. I have personally asked one time for a seat in same coach of my friend. She asked me for the seat number of my friend and then gave me seat near to my friend.

It works this way, when you enter passenger details, you have to command the system suppose if you want B2 coach, you give input from keyboard by pressing B2, if seats are available in that coach the system allots seat in d same coach..
