Inhuman Railway Software
Couple of days back I booked an eticket from New Delhi to Jhansi by 1058 ASR DR express. To my horror I found that the Lady guardian was allotted berth in coach S3 while Child was allotted berth in coach S7. This I find unacceptable from from one of the largest railway system in the world. I understand that there is a option while booking whereby you can get your ticket booked only when all the all the passengers are allotted birth in same coach.
The software should

be so designed that if there are births are available then the lady and the child should be accommodated in the same coach. It is not a rocket science to get such a software designed that too for one of the largest railways in the world.
In my case the births were available as is evident from the fact that I immediately canceled the eticket & re-booked on same date, same train same destination & was allotted birth in same coach. In the process i had to loose money in form of cancellation charges & IRCTC service charge.. However while re booking I had to check the option whereby you can get your ticket booked only when all the all the passengers are allotted birth in same coach.
This I find unnecessary. If the child and accompanying lady guardian are traveling together they should automatically be provided berth in the same coach if berths are available.

Dear Jitesh ji (your post of 8:05 PM on 28th Sept.) !
Your observation further indicates discrepancy in the software. If a condition is asked for and can not be honoured, what is the fun in getting the payment first and than denying? IRCTC may be approached to correct it. Thanks.
And dear Blogger at 07:28 AM today!

Dear Mr Jain & other Bloggers
I agree with all of you that IRCTC should make some changes in its software but who cares there. I am giving you an example
Few days back I was booking a ticket in 2001 BPL NDLS Shatabdi Exp from Bhopal To New Delhi. Due to some technical problems it was not showing the availability for New Delhi & the reservations were available upto Mathura Jn(Second Last Stop of Train). But when I checked the availability on www.indianrail.gov.in it was showing seats are available for New Delhi.

I called at the call center no provided at IRCTC site & told them the problem. They first checked the problem & gave me the reply why are you booking in this particular train, why not you book in Garib Rath which is available on that day.
Thats the way they are working, I was telling them a technical problem & instead of solving it they asked me to book tickets in other train.

Hello Bloggers, Jiteshji, Jain Saheb, Pradeep saheb,
I stand by my point made. You mentioned 15 minutes for cancelling and rebooking; second you asked for ladies quota. First 15 minutes while you were doing, the software was already handling the other payment requests in queue, and second, if ladies quota is full, and does not have two adjacent seats, unless you requested it, it will allot in different compartments. When you chose the same quota and do not book option, in that interval of 15 minutes (the system is not waiting for you.. it is working on other requests committed to it), there must have been changes, and because of your request it looked into the options given, and gave you the

available berths because if you see my post, and my question to you, it allocates lower berths first to the ladies, children and senior citizens....., and now with the do not option book option, you got the lower and middle berths. Since you asked for ladies berth, if one set is full, the next set is opened, and if that is full, it goes to the general quota. The ladies quota is limited, unlike earlier times, when ladies quota only meant a cabin with locable doors. That is no longer available on 2S on any, any train. It is not 1, wait, then 2nd request. It is 1, no response, attend to 2, 1 responds, wait, attends 1, and so on..... As I said there is work being done to minimize problems like these but please remember you are in queue, and you are not the only one. IR is the largest network, and apart from your family, there are an equally large number of people who are also in the same position you are in. Please bear this in mind. I am not disagreeing with you, but trying to explain the problem, and the problem being faced with changing the system logic. For every lady passenger/family trvelling together, there are an equally large number of lady passenger/s/families being split!! And they are complaining just as you are. Complaining is the not right word.

Dear Murlidhar Ji
I had opted for ladies quota both during the first booking and second booking.
When I started my first booking there were 6 seats available in the ladies quota which got reduced to four after booking. After cancellation again it showed six vacant berths. Ladies quota is pre-decided having two cabins with six berth each. In my first booking with a vacancy of six berths there were definitely two berths in same cabin which was not allotted but allotted later during the second booking; off course

Greetings!
The above blog has some of the peculiar difficulties we all face while travelling in groups. There is a strong need for allowing the selection of desired seats by the pessangers themselves (as you find while booking movie tickets on certain websites).
At the same time allocating seats in different bogies is just UNACCEPTABLE, and if the similar situation arises the software should prompt the user (that if this is acceptable?)

Up IRCTC!... let's get this done to the pessangers at the earliest.
Thanks
