Good Morning everyone. Can anybody tell me that why does CLW manufacture WAP-4 Locos even after starting to design WAP-7 Locos ? I have heard that both these AC Electric Locos can't haul long distance 20+ Coach Passenger Trains more than 140 Kmph MPS :-p
.
PS: Do P-4 and P-7 serve different kinds of trains on IR Network based upon their acceleration and speed capabilities ? :-o

WAP-4 is restricted to 110,some WAP-4 are fit for 130. Expect FDB-AGC,none of the routes in IR is 130+ certified so it doesn't makes any difference if a WAP-4 is hauling or WAP-7.
Yes. For trains having more halts are allotted WAP-7. Also Premium trains are allotted WAP-5/7 since they are required to maintain high speed. Other trains are efficiently hauled by WAP-4.
CLW cannot stop the production of WAP-4 till WAP-7 are sufficient in number to haul huge number of trains in IR.

Rate is less of WAP-4 as compared to WAP-7. Also production of WAP-4 is more efficient,cheap and less time consuming then a WAP-7.

Raam Sir... you mean to say that P-4 Locos are not 3-Phase Electric Locos like P-7s and remain far more fit since they have been made by Desi Indian Engineering Minds (Although P-7s creator is also a talented Indian Railway Engineer Mr. Sujeet Mishra)... I guess that it's boring maroon livery and unattractive shell design make rail fans prefer P-7/5 Locos over P-4 ;-)

M ain't bored of any locos, though being a loco admirer only.
WAP-4 isn't a 3 phase loco. Its developed from its mother Gene WAP-1 n WAM-4, and thanks to earlier generation WAG series locos which came to India from overseas.
Our technology has been modified for our land only, as BG system is rare piece to b found on this globe.

I agree with you... introduction of WAP-1 on the Howrah Rajdhani must have been a revolution of sorts in the early 1980s [Just like WAP-5 ran with the same train for the 1st time in India in 1998] from the comparatively slower WAM-4 Locos. I wonder that why are machine room capsule shaped windows absent in 3-Phase Locos like they are present in WAP-4s (same for freight electrics also)... :-)

WAP-7 is just modified, the plus points is its good weight and its massive pulling effort, which slightly higher than WAP-4 n WAM-4.
Its gene is extracted from WAG-9, whose mammoth pulling effort is almost equally greater to its father WAG-6A/B/C series.
Exceptional given for WAG-9H, which is developed n modified even for better purpose and is almost equally powerful to DLW based GT46MAC WDG-5.
