The state government would bear the entire cost of the proposed flyover bridge. The state decided on it in 2013 and requested the railways for a no-objection certificate (NOC).
Nearly 7m of the flyover bridge would pass over the railway tracks.
Congress MLA from Bhagalpur, Ajit Sharma, had intensified his movement for the bridge soon after getting elected last year. He said a high-level team from Eastern Railways and Bihar government engineers in October inspected Bholanathpul and prepared a blueprint. The railways had earlier rejected the map of the proposed flyover bridge, prepared by Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation.
The final blueprint (map) was sent to Eastern Railways in December 2014, to obtain an NOC. Finally, the railway has given consent," Ajit said, adding: "Funds for the same is ready and work will start as soon as formalities for NOC are completed."
Rajesh Argal, divisional railway manager, Malda, confirmed railway consent and said NOC formalities would be over in the next 15-20 days.
