Yes don't send it as parcel because its not grain that will last for months, the mangoes will spoil in 4-5 days, but in parcel railway sends things as per their comfort and the person who have internal links in railways/ parcel deptt or reputation are on priority. Also, there can be rough handling without you (in parcel). Also at platforms, there are chances of theft of some mangoes by staff/workers/public or Spoiling by rats etc.
Take it with you as luggage. There are different rates for different luggages booking 1) Consumable 2) Non Consumable 3) Machinery/Electrical 4) Electronics etc.
For...
more... 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. trains, you have to book it by reaching Luggage/Parcel office, 4 hours in advance. And for 8 p.m. to morning trains, you have to book it, before closing of parcel office general counter (generally 4 - 5 p.m.).
You have to present one ID proof and Ticket print with 1 xerox copy and declare the value of goods.
For bikes etc you have to give RC copy on your name, For electronic goods like TV, you have to show bill copy also etc etc.
They will make one luggage receipt memo and collect money.
You have to produce, that memo and ticket at destination station to receive goods back.
For day reaching trains, till 4 hours and for night reaching trains, till 4 hours of opening of luggage office next day, it will be free delivery. But if you not recieved your booked luggage till then, per hour charges per quintal etc will have to be paid.
Also, if you book luggage in train originating to destination train, then its ok, otherwise if train luggage van compartment comes from starting station already packed, they will messege you that your goods will be sent by same train next rake (for weekly train, week later). Similarly if your luggage remains towards, other side of platform, at an intermediate station and it is heavy/ labours not willing to open door and takeout it from that direction in a 5-10 minutes stoppage time of train, your luggage will go to termination station or a next station where platform comes that side and stoppage is of 5-10 minutes. Then it will be sent by some local passenger, intercity or small distance train from that station to your station.
So, better choose end/nearby to end/nearby stations train and luggage (not parcel).
I went from nzm to ers in tvm rajdhani and reached station with bike exactly 4 hours before. Booking took 15-25 min and so it got late. They told me that it will now be send 2 days later by next tvm rajdhani.
I came to Ers, went station 2 days later, they told no bike came yesterday night by rajdhani. It might have gone to tvm. Next day it came from tvm by tvm ers passenger. I went in evening next day, they charged me 240 rs @ 20₹ per hour for the bike as I went 12 hours more late than free 4 hours time.
