The First train on Indian soil ran between Bombay and Thane on the 16th of April 1853 and the regular run began from 18 April 1853.
From 18 April to 30 April 1853 Railway ferried 21,922 passengers with total earning of 9,109,3 aanas and paise.
Ahmedabad Mumbai Central Double Decker Express is India’s first double Decker train.
India’s first steam engine never ran on tracks and was actually used in a factory.
The maximum speed of the first experimental train in India was 7.2 km/hour.
The locomotive engine for the maiden run between Bombay and Thane was pulled by 200 coolies on streets.
There was actually a plan to build a rail network from the English Channel all the way to the river Indus.
Konkan Railway Train Route is the most beautiful and nature scenery train route of Indian Railways.
Samjhuata Express was first international border train in India.
Two historical railway elements are included in the UNESCO’ World Heritage site list – the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, and the Indian Mountain Railways.
Indian railways has Five luxury trains in India These are:-Royal Rajasthan on Wheels, Palace on Wheels (Rajasthan), The Golden Chariot (Karnataka and Goa), The Maharajas’ Express (begins in Delhi but the itinerary differs) and The Deccan Odyssey (begins in Maharashtra but itinerary differs).
The Vivek Express (Dibrugarh to Kanyakumari) travels a distance of 4273 km, which is the longest run in the railways.
The shortest run is taken by a few scheduled services between Nagpur and Ajni – a total of 3 kms.
Srirampur and Belapur are two different stations in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra. They are both situated at the same point on the railway route, but are located on opposite sides of the track.
