Images of the Frontier Mail in its glory. Called by Times UK as the most important train in British empire then, this train was in a league apart. The first class carriage had plush interiors, rudimentary air conditioning (first train in India to get this), servants' quarters , attached bathroom and the door opened straight onto the platform(no alley way back then). When the train used to stop at intermediate stations, first class pax had full access to plum waiting room at stations. The first class on this train made current 1A look like third class. There used to be a restaurant car which was no less than a five star hotel then with everything from great food to beer available. There used to be newspaper and magazine as well. Bombay station used to be lit up at night when this train arrived there. And it was NEVER late. It was...
more... a common saying back then that one could tune their watches by the arrival of this train. Once when it was 15 min late, there was a huge uproar and official enquiry set up.
