Supreme Court’s Delhi Metro verdict opens a Pandora’s box for PPP infra projects

The Supreme Court has overturned a previous ruling and a Delhi High Court order, rejecting a ₹8,000 crore claim by Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Ltd (DAMEPL) against Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The dispute stems from a ₹5,700 crore, 22.7 km metro line project, India's first public-private partnership (PPP) metro...

project. The project, originally intended for completion before the 2010 Commonwealth Games, faced delays and safety issues. DAMEPL, responsible for system works, terminated the project in 2013 after a series of disputes regarding fares, punctuality, and safety. DAMEPL won an arbitration claim for ₹8,009.38 crore against DMRC, but this was overturned by the Supreme Court. The decision highlights the risks of infrastructure projects in India, particularly the potential for disputes and the lack of clarity in contracts. The case also raises concerns about India's ability to attract foreign investment in infrastructure projects.

Supreme Court ne ek pehle ke decision aur Delhi High Court ke order ko overturn kar diya hai, jisme Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Ltd (DAMEPL) ka DMRC ke against ₹8,000 crore ka claim reject kiya gaya hai. Yeh dispute ₹5,700 crore ke, 22.7 km metro line project se hai, jo...

India ka pehla public-private partnership (PPP) metro project tha. Project, jo 2010 Commonwealth Games ke pehle complete hone wala tha, delays aur safety issues se jhujta raha. DAMEPL, jo system works ke liye zimmedar tha, 2013 mein project terminate kar diya, fares, punctuality, aur safety ke baare mein dispute ki series ke baad. DAMEPL ne DMRC ke against ₹8,009.38 crore ka arbitration claim jeet liya, lekin Supreme Court ne isko overturn kar diya. Yeh decision India mein infrastructure projects ke risks ko highlight karta hai, khaas kar disputes ke potential aur contracts mein clarity ki kami ko. Case India ki infrastructure projects mein foreign investment attract karne ki capability ko leke bhi doubts uthaata hai.

These days, every other day, we are getting requests from members to allow email login to their FB-based IRI account. 10 years ago, we had given the option for users to login through FaceBook - in retrospect, this was a mistake. These days, apparently, users are quitting FaceBook in droves because...
