more... Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that the framework for the sleeper version of Vande Bharat Express is complete and is currently undergoing interior design. Trials will begin within 2 months and the train is expected to be operational within 6 months. Continuous improvements are being made to the existing chair car version of Vande Bharat Express based on operational experiences. The sleeper version of Vande Bharat Express requires a heavier base to balance its higher center of gravity. The new designs of the motor and bogie have been improved in both the sleeper version and the new chair car version of Vande Bharat Express to address dust and stone ingress issues. The sleeper version of Vande Bharat Express will be available in 16, 20, or 24 coach sets. After the successful implementation of 2 sets of Amrit Bharat Express trains with non-AC sleeper and general coaches, their production has been accelerated. The goal is to have 300-400 Amrit Bharat Express train sets and 250-300 Vande Bharat Express train sets (both chair car and sleeper) operating by 2029. The railway network is expanding with the addition of new train sets and vehicles. Last year, 5,300 kilometers of new tracks were laid, increasing the total track length to over 1.3 lakh track kilometers and 75 thousand route kilometers. The plan is to lay 5,000 kilometers of track annually for the next 5 years, resulting in a network exceeding 1.5 lakh track kilometers. To enhance safety, the railway department is installing 'Kavach' on 6,000 kilometers of track. This expansion in network capacity will enable the operation of new trains at higher speeds. The tendering process for installing 'Kavach' on 10,000 kilometers of track is underway. The railway ministry has also reported running a record number of 19,837 special trains during this summer season, transporting over 4 crore passengers.
