Following a fatal train collision in West Bengal, India's Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, Kavach, has come under renewed scrutiny. While funding isn't the obstacle, the pace of its deployment is concerning. Kavach, costing ₹50 lakh per kilometer for track installation and ₹70 lakh per engine, aims to prevent accidents by...

warning loco pilots and automatically applying brakes if needed. Despite its potential to save lives, Kavach has been installed in only 2% of the railway network's 68,000 kilometers and less than 1% of its 15,200 engines, raising concerns about the slow progress. To cover the entire network in 10 years, the installation rate needs to significantly increase to 6,800 km/year for tracks and 1,500 engines/year.

West Bengal mein ek train accident ke baad, India ka Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, Kavach, dhyaan khinch raha hai. Funds ki kami nahin hai, lekin isko lagane ki speed bahut kam hai. Kavach, jo track par lagne mein ₹50 lakh per kilometer aur engine mein ₹70 lakh ka kharcha...

aata hai, accident ko rokne ke liye loco pilots ko warn karta hai aur zarurat padne par brake khud se laga deta hai. Bahut saare lives bachane ki capacity ke saath bhi, Kavach sirf 2% railway network, 68,000 kilometer mein aur 1% se bhi kam 15,200 engines mein laga hai, jisse iski slow progress ki chinta hai. Poore network ko 10 saal mein cover karne ke liye, installation rate ko badhakar 6,800 km/year track aur 1,500 engines/year karna hoga.
