The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has approved the construction of Chandigarh's Metro lines entirely underground within heritage sectors 1 to 30. will increase the project cost by ₹8,000 crore, bringing the total to ₹19,000 crore. The first phase of the project, which includes three routes connecting Sultanpur, New Chandigarh to Sector 28, Panchkula; Sukhna Lake to Zirakpur ISBT via Mohali ISBT and Chandigarh airport; and Grain Market Chowk, Sector 39, to Transport Chowk, Sector 26, is expected to be completed by 2034. A second phase, planned for development after 2034, will include a 25 km metro line from Airport Chowk to Manakpur Kallar and ISBT Zirakpur to Pinjore. The project has faced a delay due to Punjab's failure to release 50 acres of land in New Chandigarh for a depot, which is crucial for inspection and maintenance.

Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) ne Chandigarh ke heritage sectors 1 se 30 mein Metro lines ko pura underground banane ki approval de di hai. Yeh decision Delhi mein Chandigarh administration ke officials ke saath ministry ki recent meeting mein liya gaya, jiska reason tha Chandigarh Heritage Conservation...

Project mein delay aa gaya hai kyunki Punjab ne New Chandigarh mein depot ke liye 50 acres land release nahi kiya hai, jo inspection aur maintenance ke liye bahut jaroori hai.
