Kumbh Mela: Indian Railways Ready With 992 Special Trains And Rs 933 Crore Boost

The Indian Railway Ministry is preparing for the Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, expected to attract 30 to 50 crore devotees from January 12th, 2024. To ensure smooth travel, they are running 992 special trains, doubling railway tracks around Prayagraj (costing Rs 3,700 crore), and investing Rs 933 crore in infrastructure improvements....

These include building road overbridges (Rs 440 crore), road repairs, CCTV installation, and adding accommodation, waiting rooms, and medical facilities at stations. They have already completed track doubling between Varanasi and Jhusi and are benefiting from the newly completed Dedicated Freight Corridor, which eases pressure on passenger lines. The Ministry is learning from the 2019 Kumbh Mela, which saw over 24 crore attendees, and has increased the number of special trains by 42% compared to the previous event.
